Appointing an executor

When drafting your Will, there is a section that asks you to nominate who you would like to administer your estate in the event of your passing. It is important to appoint an Executor that you are comfortable with and who you believe holds the necessary skills to handle the responsibilities of the role.

What is an Executor and what things should you consider in deciding who might be suitable to carry out your last wishes?

The Executor is essentially the administrator of a Will. He, she or they are responsible for gathering the assets of the deceased and distributing these to the beneficiaries according to the Will. Learn about the role of the Executor in this short animation and see the Estate Planning learning module for more information.
